WCRA Announces Mid-December $360,000 MAJOR Event In Historic Cowtown Coliseum to Close Out 2021 Triple Crown of Rodeo

Event Set To Air on CBS Television Network and Paramount+ Premium on Christmas Day

AUSTIN, TEXAS- WCRA (World Champions Rodeo Alliance) today announced that the final leg of the 2021 Triple Crown of Rodeo (TCR) will culminate at the historic Cowtown Coliseum in Fort Worth, Texas December 15-18. The WCRA “Cowtown Christmas Championship Rodeo” will air on the CBS Television Network on Saturday, Dec. 25 (2:00 PM, ET) and stream live on Paramount+ Premium. The event will have no entry fees and will payout more than $360,000 with $40,000 guaranteed per discipline.

“Bringing a WCRA Major to one of the most historic rodeo districts has been a bucket-list item since our inception,” said WCRA President, Bobby Mote. “For the first time ever, America will be able to wake up Christmas morning to world-class rodeo as Western sports will now join the holiday broadcast ranks alongside nationally televised events like the NBA and NFL.”

Nominations for the Cowtown Christmas Championship Rodeo Leaderboard (Segment FW21) are open until November 28 at 11:59 p.m. CT. The top 24 timed event athletes and the top 24 riding events athletes on the leaderboard at that time will qualify for the event with the No. 1 athlete on the leaderboard in each discipline being automatically seeded into the showdown round on December 18. The No. 1 athlete will also be given the opportunity to compete in the progressive rounds without risking their seeded position.

Outhier Rides Championship Wave at Rodeo Corpus Christi

A total of 24 athletes (eight athletes per night) in each of the nine disciplines will compete in the December 15-17 Progressive Rounds with the top two fastest time or highest score in each discipline of each performance advancing to the Showdown Round. The six qualifiers from the progressive round along with the WCRA Leaderboard No. 1 will create for a total of seven athletes competing in each discipline of the December 18 Showdown Round. The top three fastest times advance to the Triple Crown of Rodeo Round where the fastest time or score will walk away with a minimum of $12,500.

Fans will be able to mark their calendars for a multi-day holiday shopping experience in the heart of the Fort Worth Stock Yards. A week-long festival complete with shopping, food and time with family will be available to fans looking for a hometown holiday experience. Information regarding the western weekend bonanza and on-sale ticket dates will be announced in the coming weeks.

The TCR is an annual bonus that will pay $1 Million to any one eligible athlete or collection of eligible athletes who win the Event Championship and place first in the same discipline of any three consecutive WCRA Major Rodeos.

The TCR bonus will be available to all athletes from around the globe who nominate their current competitive efforts through the WCRA Virtual Rodeo Qualifier (VRQ) and earn a minimum of 15 points on the Cowtown Christmas Championship Rodeo leaderboard.
