Prairie Circuit Finals Postponed Due to EHV-1 Outbreak

In an effort to minimize the spread of the EHV-1 disease, the decision has been made to postpone the Circuit Finals.

In a press release posted by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA), the Prairie Circuit Finals scheduled for Nov. 19-22 at the Kansas Star Arena in Mulvane, Kansas, has been postponed due to the outbreak of EHV-1 that originated at the WPRA Finals in Waco, Texas, Nov. 5–9.

The news comes following the cancellation of the Barrel Futurities of America (BFA) in Guthrie, Oklahoma.

The full press release from the PRCA is below ⬇️

“The Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) is actively monitoring the outbreaks of Equine Herpesvirus (EHV/EHM) and continued management of Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA). State and industry officials have issued alerts and recommendations for enhanced biosecurity and monitoring.

The PRCA, the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo and the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association (WPRA) are following the recommended guidelines of the Texas Animal Health Commission and have made the decision to cancel the Uvalde Rodeo Qualifier, Nov. 19-22.

The PRCA also made the difficult decision to cancel the Boot Barn Prairie Circuit Finals Rodeo scheduled in Mulvane, Kan., Nov. 19-22.

The safety and well-being of animal athletes is the top priority, and the recent EHV-1 announcement from other events has led to the cancellation of these events. Additional information regarding how this cancellation will affect the contestant field for the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo in February will be provided once details are finalized.

PRCA Veterinarian, Dr. Doug Corey, DVM, recommends that all horse owners treat this as a biosecurity situation, keeping their animals clean and separate from others, and checking temperatures regularly.

We appreciate everyone’s understanding during this time. Additional information on this evolving situation will be available at prorodeo.com.”
