On this episode, 2022 College National Finals Rodeo Champion breakaway roper and Women’s All-Around Champion Bryana Lehrmann breaks down the mental training that helped her to be successful at her third CNFR. She also discusses time management when working multiple events and bringing her standout mare, Lizzie, back from an injury that should have ended her career. Lehrmann shares some helpful tips for competitors looking to college rodeo in the future and the lessons she learned along the way—including how to handle the party scene and be successful in the arena.
Lehrmann finished no worse than fourth in any of the four rounds of competition in the breakaway roping at the 2022 CNFR. In the process, her aggregate time of 9.2 seconds on four head was the fastest in over 30 years of competition. She also placed in the barrel racing and secured the women’s all-around championship.
Lehrmann’s mare Lizzie overcame a potentially career-ending injury just in time to help Lehrmann dominate in Casper. You can read more about Lizzie’s story here.
You may remember Lehrmann from her episode with Haven Meged after they had success at the Royal Crown in Waco, Texas. You can listen to her background in life and rodeo, and listen to Meged’s hilarious opinions on breakaway ropers and their horses’ stops here.
