The Cisco College sophomore opened with a 3.11 and 2.65 before finishing it off with a2.41 in the finalround—good enough to secure the win in a setup that fit her style.
“The calves were pretty perfect for me,” Nixon said. “My horse doesn’t run too hard, sothey worked out really good.”
Nixon rode her 17-year-old gelding “Tags,” a horse that’s been in the family and used morein the team roping.
“He really works good in the breakaway,” she said. “I think he likes it.”
Between school, work, roping and gearing up for a busy stretch of rodeos, Nixon said thewin came at just the right time.
