Charlie Sohrt added another big moment to her growing résumé at the 2026 Hooey Jr. Patriot, winning the 12 & Under Breakaway Semifinals with a blazing 4.25 seconds on two head to earn $3,000 and secure her place in the championship round in Fort Worth, Texas.

The 12‑year‑old standout delivered a 2.11 in the first round to take the go‑round win before backing it up with a 2.14 in the short round to seal the average victory. Despite nerves heading into the final run, Sohrt trusted her preparation and capitalized on a strong draw.
“It was a very nerve‑wracking run,” Sohrt said. “But I backed in there and just went and did my job. I drew a great calf, thankfully. The loop wasn’t the best, but whatever works, works. I was so excited.”
Her success in Fort Worth has been fueled in part by her dependable mount, Roxy—a horse originally purchased for goat tying before transitioning into Sohrt’s primary breakaway horse. After selling another horse and leaning more heavily on Roxy at amateur rodeos, the duo has developed a consistent rhythm that showed up when it mattered most.
“She just does her job every time,” Sohrt said.
Sohrt has stayed busy throughout Patriot week, competing in multiple events and jackpots while continuing to build momentum heading into the semifinals. A win in a warm‑up breakaway jackpot helped boost her confidence, and she carried that energy into the arena to top a leaderboard filled with familiar faces.
“I’ve been roping against all these people since we were little,” Sohrt said of the group of close friends who also advanced. “Now we all get to rope in the finals together.”
With a shot at even bigger money in the championship round—and potentially the $50,000 bonus opportunity that follows—Sohrt plans to stay focused on the fundamentals.
“I’m just going to rope the dummy as much as I can correctly, go watch my run, see what my calf does and hopefully win some money tomorrow night,” Sohrt said.
