For the first time in its 90-year history, the San Angelo Stock Show & Rodeo is adding breakaway roping to their ProRodeo taking place April 5–19, 2024 with $45,000 in added money.

San Angelo Rodeo breakaway format

Who gets in?

  • 76 from the 2023 Pro Rodeo Breakaway World Standings
  • 50 from the 2024 Pro Rodeo Breakaway World Standings based on earnings seven days prior to entries closing
  • 32 from the 2023 Pro Rodeo Breakaway Texas Circuit Standings
  • 22 from the 2024 Pro Rodeo Breakaway Texas Circuit Standings based on earnings seven days prior to entries closing.

How’s it laid out?

Every breakaway roper is roping twice; with the top top 36 from the 2023 Pro Rodeo Breakaway World Standings and the top 12 from the 2024 Pro Rodeo Breakaway World Standings seeded into the 48 performance positions.

The remaining 132 ropers will rope twice in the Tuesday morning slack.

The top 12 ropers on two head will advance to the short go on Friday, April 19, where the champion will be determined by the fastest aggregate on three head.
