The first qualifying event for the Kimes Million Dollar Breakaway is right around the corner—Oklahoma’s Richest, Oct. 18-20, 2024, at the Lazy E—and entries are due Oct. 1!

That means you have less than a week to enter up (without incurring late fee penalties) for your shot at a spot in the richest breakaway roping event in the history of the sport.

How to qualify for the Kimes Million Dollar Breakaway

Qualifying Opportunity #1: Oklahoma’s Richest

The first qualifying event with no limits will be held in conjunction with Oklahoma’s Richest Oct. 18-20 at the Lazy E Arena in Guthrie, Oklahoma. The top 20 from each go-round and the top 20 from the aggregate will advance to the Semifinals.

Schedule of Million Dollar Breakaway Qualifying Rounds at Oklahoma’s Richest

Friday, Oct. 18
9 a.m. – Million Dollar Breakaway Qualifying Round 1 – Arena 3

Saturday, Oct. 19
9 a.m. – Million Dollar Breakaway Qualifying Round 2 – Arena 3

Sunday, Oct. 20
9 a.m. – Million Dollar Breakaway Qualifying Round 3 – Arena 3


Qualifying Opportunity #2: Last Chance Qualifier

The second qualifying event is the Last Chance Qualifier held in Scottsdale, Arizona, on Nov. 27, with a limit of 250 entries. The top 10 in each go-round plus the top 10 in the aggregate will advance to the Semifinals. There will also be a Buy-Back Round that advances an additional five qualifiers and one WRWC Challenger to the Semifinals.

Pre-entry period: Oct. 21-Nov. 1 (or when the max 250 entries are met)
Online late entries with $50 late fee: Nov. 5-25
Online late entries will be accepted with a $100 late fee

Million Dollar Breakaway Semifinals

The Semifinals will consist of 141 ropers:

  • 80 qualifiers from the Oklahoma qualifier
  • 40 qualifiers from the Last Chance Qualifier
  • 5 qualifiers from the Buy-Back Round
  • 5 qualifiers from the No. 11-15 positions in the world standings
  • 11 WRWC challengers

Entry period: Oct. 21–Nov. 4


Who can compete in the Kimes Million Dollar Breakaway?

The Kimes Ranch Million Dollar Breakaway will consist of the top 10 breakaway ropers in the world standings plus 15 qualifiers. It is open to all ages and no membership is required to enter.
