Kylie Reininger topped the 19 and Under Breakaway Jackpot at the Hooey Jr. Patriot with an aggregate of 7.61 seconds on three head, rounding up $6,154.
“I roped in the 15 and under earlier today—I won the first round and came back high call, but I broke the barrier and missed,” Reininger said. “It really made me push tonight—I wanted to get out of the barrier and catch my calves.”
Pushing would be one way to describe Reininger’s blazing Round 1 time; a 1.98-second run that clinched the round win.
“My plan was to just go catch him and be clean on him,” Reininger said. “Be clean on the barrier.”
From there she roped in 2.76 seconds in Round 2 to head to the short go as the third call. A 2.87-second run in the short go put her in the drivers seat, but she had to sweat 15 and Under Champion Ellie Boyd and 2024 Women’s Rodeo Breakaway Champion Amy Ohrt.
When the dust settled, her time had held as the fastest on three thanks to hard work from her gelding “Tyson.”
“This horse is real special to me,” Kylie Reininger said. “He’s 10 years old and I’ve had him for 2 years. He’s my ride or die horse.”
Reininger thanked her parents, sister Kelsie and mentor Kelsie Domer for their support, and is looking forward to roping in the 15 and 19 and Under Breakaway Semifinals later in the week.
