Last Minute Look at Circuits Before Breakaway’s 2023 Cowboy Christmas

As Cowboy Christmas rolls out across the country, see where the circuits are before they shake up.

Great Lakes Circuit Finals

Breakaway’s Cowboy Christmas is in full swing with ladies racing for the Top 15 and circuit position alike backing in the box and giving a nod.

Badlands Circuit

Two new names have entered the top five and risen to No. 1 and No. 2—Amber Carson and Taylor Engesser. Carson’s rise was supported by a $3,130 win at Newton Rodeo Days in North Dakota, while Engesser was part of the four-way-tie for No. 2 in Newton that paid $2,074.

Colombia River Circuit

Mille Greenwood has come out of left field to take over the Colombia River standings by $1,623. Her biggest payday came at the Crooked River Roundup in Prineville, Oregon where she tied with Rickie Engesser and won $4,919.

First Frontier Circuit

The First Frontier Circuit is at a relative standstill with the loss of 17 ProRodeos. Cowtown Rodeo announced they were cutting breakaway in April, and the negotiations that followed with the WPRA were unsuccessful.

Cowtown Rodeo recently announced they were cutting ProRodeo barrel racing, too.

Great Lakes Circuit

Alli Masters traded her No. 2 position for No. 1 at the end of June, setting herself up to repeat her 2022 circuit success—where she won both the year end and the aggregate championship.

Maple Leaf Circuit

Lakota Bird continued her winning ways on the Maple Leaf Circuit, adding $1,112 to her total in the last two weeks with performances at the Innisfail Pro Rodeo and Bassano Rodeo in Alberta.

Jenna Dallyn has been cashing checks, too, earning $1,921 since mid-June. $1,253 of that came at the Staveley Indoor Pro Rodeo in Alberta, where a 2.2-second run landed her No. 2 in the rodeo.

Montana Circuit

The Montana Circuit is coming alive with 2022’s year-end champion Joey Williams moving into the top five with $1,218 in earnings she nabbed at the Little Big Horn Stampede in Hardin, Montana with a 2.8-second time.

Another new name on the list is Shelby Boisjoli, who won her 1,405 at the 58th Belt PRCA Rodeo in Belt, Montana with a 2.4-second time.

Mountain States Circuit

Breakawayroping.com coach Linsay Rosser-Sumpter has risen from No. 4 to No. 1 in the Mountain States Circuit. After picking up $1,365 at the Elizabeth Stampede Rodeo in early June, Rosser-Sumpter landed a $609 check at the Evergreen Rodeo in Colorado to bump her to the top spot.

Prairie Circuit

The Prairie circuit has seen little movement throughout the second half of June, with 2022’s year-end Taylor Munsell still sitting squarely atop the standings. Last year Munsell earned the title with $12,615 in earnings, meaning she’s already $1,664 ahead of her finishing total from 2022.

Southeastern Circuit

The Southeastern Circuit has been quiet, with top cowgirl Laramie Johnson winning June checks in Texas at rodeos including the Mt. Pleasant Rodeo, Gladewater Round-Up and Johnson County Sheriff’s Posse Rodeo. Johnson is currently No. 31 in the world standings with $18,130 in earnings.

Texas Circuit

Martha Angelone has made up her $26 deficit to Hali Williams and now leads the field by $2,043. She did it at the Big Spring Cowboy Reunion & Rodeo in Texas, where a 2.0-second time tied her with Kelsey Domer and won her $2,722.

Resistol Rookie competitor Kenzie Kelton has moved into the No. 1 spot with $4,835 won. She did it at spots like the Gary Hardt Memorial Rodeo in Payson, Arizona in late May, where she finished No. 2 and earned $1,218. Kelton also picked up some cash at the Pioneer Days Rodeo in New Mexico, where a 3.2-second run in a salty field earned her $383.

Wilderness Circuit

Kash Gay has made her mark in the Wilderness Circuit, coming from outside the top five to land neatly in the No. 1 spot. Gay won at the Fort Herriman PRCA Rodeo in Utah for $1,816 and rounded up an additional $964 at the Days Of The Old West Rodeo in Delta, Utah.
