Martha Angelone’s rodeo career changed in a big way when she won the 2022 Women’s Rodeo World Championship Breakaway title—and she’s since garnered and additional breakaway championship and two All-Around World Championships.
“I love this event,” Angelone said. “I love the WCRA events. In 2022 it changed my life, gave me my horsepower, and gave me some cushion, honestly.”
Martha Angelone’s Second Breakaway Championship
Her most recent breakaway title—earned May 15 inside the Cowtown Coliseum—came after 2.17 and 2.27–second runs in Round 2 and the Semifinals. In all, Angelone’s earned $26,500 throughout the week.
“I honestly haven’t had the best finals yet,” Angelone said. “I missed my first calf, placed in Round 2 and won the Semifinals, but the team roping hasn’t gone how I wanted it to at all. My mentality has been critical—I’ve got to keep going forward even when it doesn’t go the way I want.”
How the WRWC Changed Martha Angelone’s life
In 2022, Angelone rode gelding “Simba” to her $60,000 Championship.
“Before [WRWC 2022] I didn’t have a great horse,” Angelone said. “I was supposed to sell Jesse James for Tanner, and when I rode him, I knew I needed a horse like that. When I won I was able to buy him, and ever since I stepped on him, I won a check everywhere I went.”
Martha Angelone’s WRWC Timeline
- April 2022 – Wins Breakaway World Championship
- April 2023 – Wins All-Around World Championship
- April 2024 – Wins Breakaway and All-Around World Championship
Martha Angelone’s Second Consecutive All-Around Championship
Angelone competed in three separate disciplines: heading, heeling, and breakaway. Despite not earning a qualified time during Round 1 in the breakaway, Angelone’s 27,380 points on her breakaway leaderboard standings coming into the event was good enough to earn the $5,000 Pro World Championship Bonus.
“My biggest goal here was to win the all-around,” Angelone said. “I knew I had a good chance to on my way into this event, and the points stopped [counting] today so I needed to do my job.”
Angelone, who began earning points for the title in April 2023, finished the race with more than 8,845 points ahead of the 2020 all-around world champion and 2023 Heeling Champion, Jackie Crawford’s 24,135 points.
Still on the docket
The excitement of the week still isn’t over for Angelone, though. She has the Showdown Round on Thursday at the WRWC, where the three ropers competing at AT&T Stadium for a $60,000 prize will be determined.
Friday she has the Kid Rock’s Rock N Rodeo, where she’s competing on the team “Low Riders” alongside peer Kelsie Domer.
Saturday is the conclusion of the WRWC at AT&T, held in conjunction with the PBR World Finals.
“I’m going to try my hardest to get through to AT&T, it’s a clean slate and they’re taking three out of 12,” AngelThere are a lot of tough girls in there, so you’re going to have to be fast. [At the Cowtown Coliseum] it’s a lot of what you draw.”
