The biggest payday in youth rodeo is back at the Lazy E July 8-11, 2026, with the Cinch World Championship Junior Rodeo.
The WCJR returns to Guthrie, Oklahoma, with more than $145,000 in guaranteed added money up for grabs across 11 events and two age divisions. Here’s everything team ropers need to know about getting to Guthrie and what the format looks like.

How to Get to the WCJR: Three Roads to Guthrie
The WCJR uses a three-pronged qualification system. Team ropers can punch their ticket through the Virtual Rodeo Qualifier leaderboard, Qualifier Series Events or the on-site Last Chance Qualifier.
1. Virtual Rodeo Qualifier (VRQ) Leaderboard — The Free Way In
The top 15 contestants per timed-event (per division, per end in the team roping) on the WCJR VRQ Leaderboard as of June 14, 2026, earn a direct spot in the WCJR semifinals with no additional entry fee.
Team ropers chasing leaderboard points should be entering nominated VRQ rodeos throughout the qualifying window—points carry from any sanctioned VRQ event, and the leaderboard tightens fast in the spring.
2. Qualifier Series Event
At each Qualifier Series event, the highest-placing nominated athlete earns a generic qualification to the 2026 WCJR, regardless of their position on the WCJR leaderboard.
Athletes may only earn one generic qualification. If the same athlete earns the top-nominated spot at multiple events, the qualification will roll down to the next highest-placing nominated athlete at those additional events.
3. Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ) — The On-Site Path
Don’t make the leaderboard? You’re not out of it. The Last Chance Qualifier runs at the Lazy E ahead of the semifinals and gives every paid entry a shot to advance.
- Entry fee: $250 per discipline, paid through NextGen Rodeo
- Pre-entry deadline: Monday, June 29, 2026
- Late entry window: June 30–July 6 (+$50 late fee)
- On-site late entries: +$100 late fee
LCQ format pays forward in two rounds plus an aggregate. The top six in Round 1, the top six in Round 2 and the top 15 on the average advance—that’s 27 team roping spots earned through the LCQ, per end, per division.
One More Bullet: The Buyback Round
After the LCQ, three additional timed-event spots are filled through the buyback round, giving athletes who didn’t make it through the LCQ one more chance to rope into the semifinals.
2026 WCJR Team Roping Format: Semifinals to Finals
The semifinals field in each timed event is set at 45 athletes per end, per division—15 from the VRQ leaderboard, 27 from the LCQ and three from the buyback round.
From the semifinals:
- Top 15 times (timed events) advance to the short round
The WCJR World Champion in each event is crowned on the aggregate of the semifinals plus the finals round.

The WCJR paid out more than $410,000 across all disciplines in 2025—the biggest youth-rodeo purse in the country. With $145,000-plus guaranteed in added money for 2026 and entry fees stacking on top, the total payout is again expected to clear the $400,000 mark.
