Some 20 ladies can breathe a sigh of relief early in the summer run, having locked their spots into the $750,000 Inaugural Women’s Rodeo World Championship this November 3 through November 7, 2020, at the South Point Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

Open to any female athlete over the age of 13 years old competing in breakaway roping, barrel racing, heading and heeling, the event will pay $60,000 to each event winner, paying out the whole way down to 24th place across the board.

Step-By-Step Guide to the WCRA’s Nomination Process

The 2020 Women’s Rodeo World Championship Leaderboard runs from May 18 starting at noon CT and remains open until October 11 at 11:59 p.m. To participate in the WCRA, an athlete just needs to register as a user in the WCRA Virtual Rodeo Qualifier (VRQ). No membership dues or fees required. Visit wcrarodeo.com to register.

While most contenders will work their way to the main event through the WCRA’s leaderboar, up to 16 athletes per discipline can earn a NWYI (nominate win and you’re in) through select events found here—including BFI Charlie 1 Horse All-Girl Champions Hope Thompson and Whitney DeSalvo.

“All that money—it’s a life-changing opportunity for us,” DeSalvo, an 8 heeler, said. “We don’t get to rope at that any other time. I’m just really excited to have the chance.”

WCRA Leaderboard

The top four in the NWYI fast track earn a spot in the main event. Any athletes advancing through NWYI events will not be required to pay an entry fee. Advancing positions out of the fast track pool will be based on the total number of NWYI positions coming into the event.

Athletes who earn the top four spots in each discipline on the WCRA Leaderboard at the end of the nomination period will be directly seeded into the main event while athletes 5-64 on the leaderboard will compete in a qualifying pool. The 60 athletes in the WCRA pool will compete in a three-round progressive format with six advancing to the WRWC main event.
