The 2025 World Championship Junior Rodeo (WCJR) returns to Guthrie, Oklahoma, July 22–26, with youth athletes vying for their share of $400,000 in estimated payouts.

As the WCJR action unfolds in Guthrie, Oklahoma, Breakaway Roping Journal is covering everything from format breakdowns to draws and full results as they come in.

2025 WCJR Format

The WCJR kicks off July 23 with open qualifying rounds, where both open-entry athletes and WCRA Division Youth series qualifiers will compete.

From the two rounds of open competition, athletes can advance to the semifinals in the following ways:

  • Top two fastest times from Round 1
  • Top two fastest times from Round 2
  • Top six in the two-head aggregate
  • Top two from the buyback round

In the semifinals, 24 athletes will compete—made up of the top 12 on the WCRA DY25 leaderboard, open qualifiers and buyback qualifiers. From there, the top 8 times will move on to the final round.

The finals will include:

  • Top 8 from the semifinals
  • The WCJR Open Timed Event aggregate winner
  • The WCRA DY25 leaderboard leader

Those 10 contestants will battle it out in one final round to crown the WCJR Event Champion. The WCJR World Champion is determined based on cumulative VRQ points after the championship round.
