The CINCH Breakaway Roping Championships is an organization debuting it’s first major event this Saturday, May 6, in Belton, Texas.

The organization’s slogan is “all level breakaway,” and they aim to include a variety of levels ranging from those who have just started roping the sled to the professional level.

With the creation of the new association and leveling system, The Breakaway Roping Journal wanted to take a look at the opportunities available to competitors at CINCH Breakaway Roping Championships events.

The following information is pulled directly from the association’s rulebook, which can be found here.

“I truly believe in the importance of creating more entry points for amateur breakaway ropers. I didn’t come from a rodeo background—I started roping just 6 years ago, and let me tell you, I got my butt handed to me more times than I can count. But I stuck with it, and this year I’ve been blessed to rope at all the big events and am still holding on for top 20 in the world. It’s honestly been a dream come true.
That said, I’ve seen too many women give up before they even get going—not because they lack talent or work ethic, but because there isn’t much of an amateur pipeline. I really love what CINCH is doing with their numbered format and think it’s a huge step in the right direction.” – Kayla Graham

#5

  • $60,000 – $100,000 LTE
  • Multiple Amateur Rodeo Finalists
  • CNFR Top three

#6

  • $100,000 LTE
  • NFBR Qualifier
  • True Professional in the sport

Based on their skill level and earnings. Movement within classifications is determined by a roper’s win/loss ratio and catch/time percentage, in comparison to other competitors. The top percentage of ropers will be moved up at year end. The bottom end of ropers will be moved down at year end.

The Breakaway Roping Journal’s team looks forward to reporting on the CINCH Breakaway Roping Championships’ events as they move to advance the sport of breakaway roping.
