Bradi Whiteside of Longview, Alberta, capped off a career-best season by winning her first Canadian Professional Rodeo Association Breakaway Roping Championship at the 2025 Canadian Finals Rodeo in Edmonton, Alberta, with a total of $50,769 earned throughout the year.
To make the milestone even sweeter, Whiteside carried the No. 1 back number into CFR 51—an honor reserved for the contestant with the highest total CPRA earnings across all events. Whiteside earned the back number thanks to both her breakaway and barrel racing earnings, a pair of events she enters at nearly every CPRA rodeo.
“The day I heard I was No. 1, I was shocked,” Whiteside said. “I didn’t expect it at all. It means a lot, and I’m so thankful for the season I had. It’s [possible] to rodeo up here and be able to do both events. I love doing both, and I have two opportunities every time I go to a rodeo.”
Whiteside’s 2025 season
Whiteside’s 2025 campaign was marked by perseverance. What started with a rocky spring, where she missed a streak of calves, turned into a fruitful summer thanks to gelding Hott For Teacher, who’s owned by her boyfriend Ben Bamford.
“Teacher scores like a rock and runs hard to the cow—sometimes he gets me there so fast it catches me off guard,” Whiteside explained. “He worked so good all season, and I’m so thankful for that horse.”

Some of the duo’s biggest wins included the SMS Equipment Pro Tour Rodeo in Armstrong, British Columbia for $7,500, the Lea Park Rodeo in Marwayne, Alberta for $2,051 and the Grand Prairie Stampede in Alberta for $2,243. Other wins came in Innisfail, Alberta, and Stavely, Alberta.
Finishing it out at CFR 51
At her fourth CFR appearance, Whiteside’s focus was simple: rope consistently and stay mentally steady. After missing her first calf in Edmonton, she roped the dummy back at the trailer, and stayed the course.
“I came in there with a little bit of anger after missing that first one,” Whiteside said. “I took more swings and made sure to ride up to my spot—and it worked. The round wasn’t super fast, but it was good enough to win.”
Bradi Whiteside’s CFR 51 Resume:
Round 1: NT
Round 2: No. 1, 2.6, $7,137
Round 3: No. 2, 2.1, $5,307
Round 4: NT
Round 5: NT
Though Whiteside didn’t rope all five calves at the CFR as she’d hoped, her overall season strength proved unbeatable. When the final results were tallied, she stood as the 2025 CPRA Breakaway Roping Champion.
“Honestly, I was kind of shocked,” Whiteside said. “I missed some calves at the finals and still ended up being able to win it, which was kind of crazy. But it’s pretty cool—it’s been a long-time goal of mine.”
Whiteside thanked her sponsors, family and Bamford for their support throughout the season, along with the committees and sponsors who continue to elevate women’s roping in Canada.
“Hopefully next year I can come back, rope better at the finals and do it all over again,” Whiteside said.
