The Solo Select Rope Horse Futurity breakaway runs three rounds and a clean-slate finals Thursday, Oct. 1, at Circle T Arena in Hamilton, Texas, with $25,000 added for 4-year-olds—up from $20,000 in its first year.
The breakaway opens the second day of the two-day futurity at 7 a.m., and its finals run ahead of the third heading round, the heeling rounds and the heading and heeling finals that night. Across heading, heeling, tie-down and breakaway, the futurity carries a minimum of $620,000 added, and it kicks off the fall Clay Logan Open.
Nine horses are drawn for Round 1. Cheyanne McCartney and Sarah Angelone each ride two, and Jackie Crawford is back on “Masterpiece Returns,” a mare she owns. Maci Berry, Hope Thompson, Micah Arnold and Marissa Boisjoli round out the field.
How It Pays
Entry is $2,000 with 65% payback and one paying hole for every 10 entries. The purse splits into two pots. Every entry ropes for the 40% Main Pot, and offspring of Solo Select’s 21 enrolled stallions also rope for the 60% Sire Pot, so those horses are running for the whole purse. Any Sire Pot money nobody claims rolls back into the Main Pot, and every dollar pays out.
Any 4-year-old by any sire can enter, as long as the registered owner or the rider holds a paid 2026 breeding contract to an enrolled stallion. Each contract is good for one entry in one roping.
Three horses in this year’s draw are Sire Pot eligible: Hope Thompson’s “Sheza Gucciful,” by The Animal; “Thiccthirty,” by Metallic Cattack, with McCartney riding; and Marissa Boisjoli’s mount, “Shanks Big Woody,” by Woody Be Tuff.
Who Won It First
Shelby Boisjoli-Meged claimed the inaugural breakaway title in 2025 aboard “Reyzed On Sugar,” known as Clark, a gelding by Kit Kat Sugar owned by her husband, Haven Meged. She won the first and third rounds on Clark, then marked 305.38 to win the finals and its $11,488 check. Clark is 5 now and Boisjoli-Meged isn’t in this year’s draw, so 2026 crowns a new champion.
McCartney finished second in the 2025 finals on Smooth Believer 21 with a 297.36. Beau Peterson and Salty were third at 296.4, and Crawford placed fourth on RR Guns N Daisies with a 295.62.
