Despite being a youth competitor, Harley Pryor competes with the expertise and savvy of a seasoned veteran, having competed on some of the most impressive rodeo stages at only 14 years old.

She has achieved major recognition this year by placing third at the American Rodeo, winning the 15 & Under Breakaway Championship at the Hooey Junior Patriot and, just recently, winning the World Championship Junior Rodeo (WCJR) breakaway roping title.

“I have been wanting to start entering the WCRA for years,” Pryor said. “I just had to wait until I turned 13. There is so much added money at the World Championship Junior Rodeo and so many opportunities for the up-and-coming Junior/Youth Athletes through the WCRA.”

Currently, Pryor is on track to defend her title at the 2023 WCJR as she ranks No.1 on the WCRA DY23 Junior leaderboard with 4067.10 points. There, she is 1,166.85 points in advance of Alee Andrews in the No. 2 position with 2900.25 points.

“This year I have been nominating all the Jr. ropings that I have been going to,” Pryor said. “We just started our High School rodeo season, and I am going to start nominating those as well.”

For these events, Pryor will call on her No. 1 mount, SC Off Your Rocker—Muffin as they call her—a 9-year-old mare her family purchased from WPRA breakaway roper, Sarah Angelone.

“Muffin fits my style perfectly,” Pryor said. “She scores great, runs hard and really rates off giving me the perfect opportunity every time.”

If Pryor can maintain her No. 1 position on the DY Junior leaderboard through June 25, she will earn a berth into the Championship Round, where she will compete for the title and her share of $200,000 prize money.

“I just love to rope at the Lazy E,” Pryor said. “I cannot wait to rope at the 2023 World Championships Junior Rodeo. I plan to keep on nominating, even though I already have a generic qualification. I want to be in the No. 1 spot to defend my 2022 World Championship Junior Rodeo title.”
