Two of the highest-earning breakaway ropers of the weekend, Maddy Jacobs (Deerman) and Cheyanne McCartney, sat down on the latest episode of The Breakaway Breakdown podcast to unpack the whirlwind of winning $13,681 and $8,211, respectively.
Jacobs, kicked off her winning week in Fallon, Nevada, for $844, before winning Elko for $6,397 and wrapping up at the Snake River Stampede in Nampa, Idaho.
“Before this last week, I was honestly scoring terrible,” Jacobs said. “That was a focus—just scoring smart. I was happy to be consistent, just catching as well.”
With her horses Whopper and Beebop in tow, Jacobs has learned to space them out and pick her rodeos more wisely in her second full season on the road.
McCartney, meanwhile, flipped the script on her rough Nampa memory from 2024.
“Last year the horse I was riding came up lame, and I rode Madison Outhier’s ‘Rooster,'” McCartney said. “He was great, but I didn’t do my job. This year was an amazing experience. Anytime you can get a lump sum in one place, it really helps a lot.”
From battling injuries to managing rigs, routes, and roping partners, both women dig deep into the strategy behind their recent success—and what it takes to stay sharp through Cowboy Christmas and beyond.
