Cheyanne McCartney came to Heber City with four horses and left with two Old West Futurity wins; one in the 4-&-under on Thiccthirty and one in the 6-&-under on Hez Talkin Smack.

The payout wasn’t small either with $8,933 on Hez Talkin Smack in the 6-&-Under Futurity and $8,233 on Thiccthirty in the 4-&-Under Pre-Futurity and that is just what the finals paid.

“It was definitely a lot of fun the last two days,” McCartney said. “I just really enjoyed it and enjoyed riding the horses.”

6-&-UNDER: HEZ TALKIN SMACK

Hez Talkin Smack hadn’t won a go-round heading into the finals. McCartney and Dont Quote Me took Round 1 for $2,000, and Shalee King on Major Trump won Round 2 for the same.

In the short round McCartney showed Hez Takin Smack for a huge 230.06 which pushed his three-round total to 676.58, and the class was his for $8,933.

McCartney said the conditions in the 6-&-Under set the stage for the class.

“In the 6-and-under, the calves were fresh,” she said. “It really showed the horses that know how to find the calf and have rate but can also run.”

Dont Quote Me followed Hez Talkin Smack home in second (total 673.31, $5,360)—giving McCartney both ends of the division. Maci Berry’s Hang Em Wranglers was third (664.01, $3,573).

Hez Talkin Smack

His calf roping resume is just as loud. At the 2025 Solo Select Stallion Incentive Futurity in Hamilton, Texas, Hez Talkin Smack won all three go-rounds with Shane Hanchey before finishing second in the finals for $8,910. Beau Peterson added another $5,000 on him at the 2025 RFA Slot Shoot Out. Cody McCartney piloted him in the maturity tie-down at the 2026 Gold Buckle Spring Showdown. Cheyanne McCartney made it a family sweep at Heber City.

At Heber City, McCartney added a pretty $8,933 to his life-time earnings but the futurity wasn’t his only trip out west. Cody took the gelding to the Pleasant Grove ProRodeo where he split first place for $4,625.

4-&-UNDER: THICCTHIRTY

McCartney and Thiccthirty trailed Jackie Crawford and Masterpiece Returns heading into the finals round. Having posted a 219.76 in Round 1 for No. 7 and a 224.74 in Round 2 for No. 2.

On Saturdays finals, Thiccthirty answered the call. McCartney showed him for a 230.09—the best single-round score in the 4-&-Under pen—and took the class lead for good.

The gelding finished with a three-round total of 674.59 and collected $8,233 for the win. Masterpiece Returns did not appear in the final four.

Thiccthirty

Thiccthirty’s 2026 resume speaks for itself.

At the Gold Buckle Spring Showdown, the gelding swept the futurity breakaway average with Cheyanne McCartney and the futurity tie-down average with Cody McCartney, earning $58,002 across two disciplines and leading all 300-plus horses at the event through three days. He won round money in five of six go-rounds and took both Elite Breeders Incentive checks. Heading into Heber City, he had already banked $29,450 in breakaway earnings in 2026. The $8,233 at Old West extends a resume that has barely started.

McCartney, who competed on four horses across both divisions over two days, said her preparation with each one made the difference.
