Corlee Massey returned to Fort Worth with one goal: win the USTRC 15 & Under Breakaway again—and she did just that.

With a 9.06-second aggregate on three head, Massey clinched the win and earned $2,090 in the average. She posted runs of 2.74 and 2.75 in the first two rounds, sealing the deal with a clean 3.57 in the final round. She also picked up $800 for fast time in Round 2, thanks to a sharp 2.20-second run on a brand-new horse she’s only owned for a week.

“It was a good day,” Massey said. “The calves were great, the setup was good and my horse worked good.”

Massey was entered twice — once on that new mount, and once on Josey Dual Pep, aka “Captain,” who carried her to the USTRC 15 & Under Breakaway title last year as well.

“Last year here was one of the first ropings I went to on Captain,” Massey said. “And then I came back this year and won it again on the same horse, so that’s pretty cool.”

This win is just the latest milestone in what’s shaping up to be a standout year for Massey. She recently made her first appearance at The American Rodeo, where she rode Captain to a sixth-place finish in the Contender Round. She’s also a 2024 WCJR finalist and the reigning 15 & Under Million Dollar Breakaway average champion — adding another layer of momentum to her back-to-back Fort Worth titles.

Still, the day wasn’t without its challenges. A rough start on her first entry knocked her out of the average early, but she kept her focus.

“I knew I wasn’t going to be any good in the average on my first calf, so I just came back trying to win round money,” Massey said. “I came back and won the second round on my new horse and then won the average on Captain.”

As for Massey’s winnings?

“It’s all going back to my parents,” Massey said. “They pay my fees and everything, so I give them all my winnings.”

Now she’s shifting gears to amateur rodeos, competing on her UPRA rookie card this season.

“I’ll be rodeoing a lot,” Massey said. “I plan to just focus on the UPRA rodeos this year.”

With back-to-back USTRC 15 & Under titles and a strong showing at The American already under her belt, the road ahead looks wide open for Massey.
