CLEAN SWEEP IN AMARILLO

Macie-Rae Warken Sweeps Old West Amarillo Breakaway on Kid Outlaw and SJR Ferarri Mist

Warken won every round of the 6-&-Under Futurity Breakaway on Kid Outlaw, then marked a 233.16 on SJR Ferarri Mist to win the 4-&-Under Pre-Futurity and go 1-2 in the short round.

Macie-Rae Warken won both breakaway divisions at the Old West Rope Horse Futurity in Amarillo, Texas, on Oct. 11, taking every round of the 6-&-Under on Kid Outlaw and winning the 4-&-Under with a 233.16 short-round run on SJR Ferarri Mist.

That 233.16 was the top single score in either breakaway class, and it carried Ferarri Mist to a 689.57 total. Warken ran second in the 4-&-Under, too, on SLR Stevie Chick, as both of her mares passed Jackie Crawford and Masterpiece Returns, who came back high call. Kid Outlaw won the 6-&-Under with 685.54.

Kid Outlaw Wins Every Round

Kid Outlaw marked 229.03 in Round 1 and 227.58 in Round 2 to come back high call at 456.61. He closed with a 228.93, again the best of the eight finalists, for 685.54. Sarah Jo Angelone and Dually Von Rey finished second at 682.11, and Quealy Probst and Playin Catty Style were third at 674.77.

Kid Outlaw is a 2021 gelding by Shiney Outlaw out of Dualin Darlene, by Dual Pep, bred by 70 Ranch Performance Horses and owned by V Warken Ranching Ltd. Warken won the 2025 Royal Crown 4-&-Under in Buckeye, Arizona, on him. The Warkens bought him as a 2-year-old with plans to sell him.

“We got him when he was two and we tried to sell him, but we never did get him sold,” Warken said. “So then we just started breakaway on him and he’s just came to it easy and just wants to do it. He just wants to be a good horse.”

What she likes most is the whole run, from the box to the stop.

“I like that he wants to score and then he wants to run all the way in there,” she said. “And then when he stops, he wants to stop his shoulders up and his butt down. I love how he wants to stop with his shoulders up.”

Warken let Kid Outlaw stand in the corner of the box for a long beat before she nodded, and she did it on purpose.

“I do it to show obviously that, and I feel like when you sit in there in the corner for a little longer, you might get an extra point there,” she said. “And then also the calf was kind of just fighting in there and I wasn’t really in any big hurry to get out of there.”

SJR Ferarri Mist’s 233.16

Crawford topped both 4-&-Under rounds on Masterpiece Returns, marking 230.23 and 228.39 to come back high call at 458.62. Warken’s mares came back right behind her—Ferarri Mist at 456.41 and Stevie Chick at 456.31. Stevie Chick went first of the three and took the lead with a 229.54. Ferarri Mist answered with the 233.16, leaving Crawford needing a 230.96. She marked 226.35 and finished third at 684.97.

SJR Ferarri Mist is a mare by SJR Diamond Mist out of Whizs Katrina, bred by San Juan Ranch and owned by V Warken Ranching Ltd. She was third in the 4-&-Under at Old West’s Heber City stop in July, when Cheyanne McCartney won on Thiccthirty. The Warkens have had her about a year.

“She’s been a really good horse,” Warken said. “We got her last October, so it’s been about a year we’ve had her and she’s just been a good horse.”

Amarillo adds to a run of Old West wins for Warken, who took the inaugural Ladies Only 6-&-Under in 2024 on Gunna Mambo and won the 6-&-Under again in 2025 on SLR Twenty Twenty. She spent this summer rodeoing through her rookie season while her dad kept the futurity horses going.

“I do lots of training, but my dad does a lot too,” she said. “He was riding them all summer.”
