She's a Goodin
Maggie Goodin Has Arrived with $53K RFA Slot Win

Maggie Goodin has put in the time, working for eight-time NFR Qualifier Justin Maass for the last six years. Now, she's getting the glory with a $53,000 payday at the Roping Futurities of America.

Maggie Goodin and Chrissys Girl B 45 secured the 2025 Roping Futurities of America Breakaway Slot Roping win with a time of 5.52 seconds, amassing $53,000 for owner H4 Ranches.

“From the first calf I ran today, I told myself I was going to score and ride my horse,” Goodin, 24, said. “The roping… it’ll happen when I get there.”

With times of 2.48 and 3.04 seconds, Goodin and gray mare “Dove” topped Round 1 for $10,000 and finished No. 4 in Round 2 for another $3,000. Their average win was the final $40,000 piece of the puzzle.

For Goodin, it’s her biggest win ever. She’s been working for famed calf roping trainer Justin Maass for the last six years, bringing along young horses.

“After riding at Justin’s my biggest strength is riding the young ones,” Goodin said. “I don’t even ride the finished ones all that well anymore, but I’ve been focusing on it. I want to be able to win on any kind of horse. I take a lot of pride in being able to get on anything and win on it.”

The mare that secured the win for Goodin is 4-year-old Dove, bred and owned by Bart and Tana Hutton of H4 Ranch. She’s sired by their stallion Bet Hesa Dandi and traces back to Playgun on the bottom side.

“You wouldn’t know she’s four, being around her,” Goodin said. “Nothing really bothers her. She’s easy and consistent. She stands there, scores, and runs with her head pretty low so you can see calves on her.”

So, what’s next for Goodin? After six years, she’s moving on from working with Maass.

“Persistence is something I’ll always take away from working with Justin. Repetitive actions every day for a long time.” – Maggie Goodin

“It was a weight lifted off my chest, a little,” Goodin said. “It wasn’t the work, it was the responsibility of bringing all these horses along. Now I can focus on fewer horses and it’s less pressure.”

Goodin hopes to buy her permit and start ProRodeoing this summer with hauling partner Kayla Graham.
