Martha Angelone currently holds the top spot on the WCRA’s Reliance Ranches VRQ (Virtual Rodeo Qualifier) Bonus Leaderboard for breakaway roping.

Athletes who earn the most VRQ points in their disciplines will receive a $25,000 cash bonus to be awarded at the Cowtown Christmas Championship Rodeo on Dec. 17, 2022.

Angelone, who ranks amongst the WCRA’s Top 10 highest earners in breakaway roping, currently holds the top spot on the leaderboard with 10,722.5 points, while Josie Conner is in second place with 7,664.285 points.

Angelone nominated a number of rodeos, including Texas’ 2022 Women’s Rodeo World Championship in May, where she won more than $70,900 and the Breakaway Roping Champion title. Then, she nominated July’s NFR Open, where she was the highest earner in any of the eight events at the inaugural Colorado rodeo.

“I nominate the really big events that have multiple go-rounds,” said Angelone, 27, of Stephenville, Texas. “I nominated the Women’s Rodeo World Championship, then I nominated Colorado Springs. Then, today, I nominated the Northern Breakaway Championships because there’s a couple of go-rounds. I usually nominate the jackpots over the rodeos because you get more chances at it with your money.”

Angelone, the two-time NFBR qualifier who currently ranks No. 1 on the WPRA/PRCA breakaway roping world standings, has won more than $98,000 at WCRA events since May 2018.

“I choose to be a part of the WCRA because of the amount of money they give out at their events,” Angelone said. “Just like the Women’s Rodeo. I won the $60,000 prize this year. It changed my life and what I’ve been doing in my life ever since. It gave me the opportunity to have the money to be able to go rodeo this summer. It’s made it a lot easier for me.”

Angelone is set to rope at the WCRA Cowtown Christmas Championship in December, which will be the fourth 2022 WCRA Major Rodeo and the final stop of the 2022 Triple Crown of Rodeo.

She currently leads the FW22 Segment Leaderboard with 2,359.5 points, while Jackie Crawford is in second place with 906.5 points. The No.1 ranked athletes on the leaderboard in each discipline will advance to the Showdown Round on Dec. 17.
