Resistol Rookie contender Jade Mitchell has only been breakaway roping for 4 years, but she’s holding her own inside the top 10 in the rookie standings with $12,917 earned.
Hauling with McKenna Hickson, Mitchell is drawing on her lifelong experience in the cutting horse pen to her her mindset focused on the task at hand—a bell-collar catch.
Mitchell is the daughter of $5 million cutting horse trainer and 2021 Open Futurity Champion John Mitchell. Not one to stick to one event, Mitchell has competed cutting and reined cow horse, too. Plus, she’s trained her two breakaway horses; “Snoopy” and “Star,” to boot.
“I struggle with [wanting to train on them] so bad,” Mitchell said. “I had to learn how to compete and not worry about what your horse does. It’s game on from the time you nod your head, try and make the most of it.”
