World champions Shad Mayfield and Sarah Angelone are bringing a new calf roping masterclass to the Roping.com audience just before they both nod their heads at the 2023 National Finals Rodeo and the National Finals Breakaway Roping, respectively.

“People may not realize that Shad and Sarah frequently practice and train horses together,” Content Director Casey Allen said. “In this series, they both work through practice sessions and discuss tips that can help both breakaway and tie-down ropers equally. We filmed this just before they took off for the summer rodeo run, so it’s unique that members will get the chance to see how these two realistically prepare their horses and themselves for intense seasons of competition.”

Mayfield (23) hails from New Mexico, where he rose up through the youth ranks and made his first NFR within the same year he won the National High School Finals Rodeo. Since then, he’s earned nearly $800,000 in the PRCA, picked up a world championship gold buckle, and will be headed back to his fifth NFR in the No. 2 position from the 2023 regular season with over $200,000 earned. Mayfield’s impressive athleticism and speed on the ground helped him secure a $100,000 win at The American in 2020 as well. He brings a series of flanking and tying 101 tips in his groundwork portion of the Roping.com series, plus shares an intimate look into his life story and mental toughness training.

Angelone (24), like her sister Martha, has a gold buckle to her name. She was crowned the 2022 WPRA All-Around Champion just before her older sister won the breakaway championship. The Virginia native is a respected futurity and open horse trainer despite her young age, and Angelone added BFI breakaway champion and NFBR qualifier to her list of achievements in 2023. She enters the Las Vegas finals in the No. 4 position in the WPRA world standings with over $115,000 earned in the regular season. The Mayfield collaboration marks Angelone’s second series on Roping.com—the first filmed in 2022 with Martha— and she uses this series to explain her practice sessions on young horses at various stages of training. Angelone also shares her road map to success, the adjustments she made after her move to Texas, and a look into her successful collegiate career during an exclusive extended interview.
