It's Josie's time
Top 5 Cowboy Christmas Earners + Updated World Standings

It's time to crunch the numbers and see who came out on top during the 2024 Cowboy Christmas breakaway run.

With the dust settled and the calculators thoroughly worn out, it’s time to see who the top earners were on the 2024 Cowboy Christmas breakaway trail and what the (unofficial) World Standings look like.

The 2024 Cowboy Christmas run felt more jam-packed than ever, with the Fourth of July falling on a Thursday and the run of rodeos spanning two weekends. The Breakaway Roping Journal calculated earnings starting with the Greeley Stampede in Colorado and ending with the World’s Oldest Rodeo in Prescott, Arizona. To see a complete list of the rodeos included, check out the breakaway results here.

No. 6 TiAda Gray – $9,056

TiAda Gray sunk a big win at the Greeley Stampede—worth a total of $7,579—to start her Cowboy Christmas off with some momentum. The New Mexico cowgirl won the iconic Windy Ryon Memorial Breakaway a little more than a month ago, and used her gritty attitude seen at the roping out on the ProRodeo road.

Gray collected another $1,477 a little closer to home at the World’s Oldest Rodeo in Prescott, Arizona, and her total of more than $9K from the week pushed her from No. 17 in the WPRA World Standings on July 2 to No. 14 on July 8.

No. 5 Maddy Deerman – $10,174

Maddy Deerman struck early on the Cowboy Christmas run, earning wins and high placings at the Greeley Stampede and Red Lodge totaling $8,140.

The Champion of the 2023 NFR Open is comfortable in big summer setups on gelding “Whopper.” The pair picked up checks at the Cody Stampede in Wyoming and another $1,423 in Prescott, Arizona.

No. 4 Hali Williams – $11,322

Now in her third year of ProRodeo, Hali Williams is capitalizing on the Cowboy Christmas run. She collected $3,000 check after $3,000 check at the Cody Stampede, Killdeer and Mandan.

Her week was topped off with a $1,295 payday at the Oakley Independence Day Rodeo with a tie for No. 10. Her July thus far is in stark contrast to her 2023 ProRodeo summer, where she was plagued by horse injuries and her own mental game during. You can read more about that here.

It’s evident that Williams—who took a majority of the winter rodeo season off this year due to a lingering ACL and Brevis Tendon injury—is raring to go and rapidly climbing the World Standings. On June 18 she was No. 15, and on July 8 she’s No. 7.

No. 3 Tacy Kay Webb – $12,185

Tacy Webb triumphed at the Oakley Independence Day Rodeo in Utah, roping in 2.1 seconds for a $7,971 payday. Webb also picked up $998 at the Toppenish Rodeo in Washington, $741 at St. Paul and $1,684 at the Mandan Rodeo in North Dakota.

Webb made the biggest leap in the standings, going from No. 23 on July 2 to No. 15 on July 8.

No. 2 Syerra Christensen – $13,024

Syerra “Cy” Christensen has a smattering of first place finishes to thank for her Cowboy Christmas glory. The Kennebec, South Dakota, cowgirl won both the Mandan Rodeo and Roughrider Days, garnering a total of $8,744.

Christensen also picked up checks at the Gary Rodeo, Sitting Bull Stampede (Mobridge) and Killdeer Mountain Roundup—sticking close to home for maybe the highest return on investment among the ProRodeo cowgirls.

No. 1 Josie Conner – $15,815

The question isn’t where Josie Conner won over Cowboy Christmas, it’s more like where didn’t she win. Conner’s paydays included:

  • No. 1 at Killdeer, $6,322
  • No. 2 at St. Paul, $4,745
  • No. 2 (split) at Belle Fourche, $2,612
  • No. 5 (split) at Cody, $1,578
  • No. 12 (split) at Oakley, $558

With Conner’s $15,815 in the bank, she narrowly beat out Shelby Boisjoli-Meged’s 2023 Cowboy Christmas earnings of $15,341. Meged went on to shatter the season earnings record in 2023, and while it’s still too early to tell what Conner is capable of, The Breakaway Roping Journal team is going to be watching expectantly (and excitedly) for the remainder of the summer.
