As the ProRodeo field enters the second-to-last weekend of the regular season, rodeo fans and competitors alike are scanning the World Standings and Resistol Rookie Standings to determine who has the best shot at glory.

The breakaway Resistol Rookie of the year race is much tighter than it’s been in the last few years, so, let’s dig into the daysheets, money and probabilities for the 2024 Breakaway Resistol Rookie of the Year.

Texas is proving to be a popular rookie destination—with many hailing from the great state or parking their trailer in a central location to hit all the rodeos they can.

No. 5 Shiloh Napp, $21,126

Napp started the 2024 season strong—leading the rookie field until everyone headed out for the summer run. Since then, she’s been slowly regaining her footing, currently sitting in the No. 5 position.

  • Tri-State Fair & Rodeo in Amarillo, TX
  • Gaines County Riding Club Pro Rodeo in Seminole, TX
  • Cowboy Capital of the World, Stephenville, TX
  • Comal County Fair & Rodeo, New Braunfels, TX

Looking at historical rodeo payouts, the most Napp could earn at these events is about $9,600, and she needs at least $6,377 to surpass No. 1 Williams. It’s not impossible, but will be difficult. Capitalizing at events including Stephenville—where there is $4,000 in added money—will be vital for her Rookie chances.

No. 4 Amanda Terrell, $21,186

Terrell just has a handful of rodeos on her calendar, as she’s stepped in to help coach the Texas Tech Rodeo Team. She’s currently entered in;

  • Gaines County Riding Club Pro Rodeo in Seminole, TX
  • Buffalo Pro Rodeo in Buffalo, TX
  • Cowboy Capital of the World, Stephenville, TX

Terrell’s earning potential sits around $6,700, and she needs at least $6,317 to move into No. 1. That’s a slim margin for error, but she’ll undoubtedly going to be swinging for the fences.

No. 3 KC-Gail Churchill, $22,684

Churchill held the No. 1 Rookie position earlier in the summer, and has her eyes on it again with six ProRodeos left on her calendar.

  • Tri-State Fair & Rodeo in Amarillo, TX
  • Gaines County Riding Club Pro Rodeo in Seminole, TX
  • Buffalo Pro Rodeo in Buffalo, TX
  • Cowboy Capital of the World, Stephenville, TX
  • Comal County Fair & Rodeo, New Braunfels, TX

Looking at past rodeo payouts, Churchill has the chance to win more than $11,500—which is promising when it comes to bridging the $4,818 gap between her and Williams.

No. 2 Harley Meged, $23,708

Meged has earned more than $4,000 in the last month, moving into the No. 2 position for the first time. Meged is entered in more rodeos than any other rookie—seven. And she’s currently sitting tied for No. 5 in Amarillo, which paid about $1,500 in 2023.

  • Tri-State Fair & Rodeo in Amarillo, TX *Currently tied for No. 5
  • Springhill Rodeo in Springhill, LA
  • Gaines County Riding Club Pro Rodeo in Seminole, TX
  • Buffalo Pro Rodeo in Buffalo, TX
  • Cowboy Capital of the World, Stephenville, TX
  • Comal County Fair & Rodeo, New Braunfels, TX

Meged’s earning potential sits around $11,600, and she’s currently $3,794 behind Williams.

No. 1 Summer Williams, $27,502

  • Tri-State Fair & Rodeo in Amarillo, TX
  • Springhill Rodeo in Springhill, LA
  • Buffalo Pro Rodeo in Buffalo, TX
  • Cowboy Capital of the World, Stephenville, TX
  • Comal County Fair & Rodeo, New Braunfels, TX

Williams’ earning potential is at more than $11,900. If she can pull a few checks, her title will be secure.
