As the summer rodeo run starts to take shape, the biggest winner the weekend of May 5–7, 2023, was Sierra Heinert with a total of $7,561 earned in round and average money at the Guymon Pioneer Days in Guymon, Oklahoma.

Heinert (formerly Smith) posted two 2.3-second runs for an aggregate of 4.6 seconds. With the average championship, Heinert, who hadn’t competed in any other ProRodeos in 2023, popped onto the WPRA breakaway leaderboard in 47th place. With approximately $13,000 in earnings between her and the No. 15 position, there is still plenty of time for Heinert to put herself in NFBR-qualifying play.

Rodeo runs in Heinert’s blood, with younger brother Tegan Smith qualifying for the 2021 NFR in saddle bronc. Her younger sisters Santana and Saige Smith rope, too.

Heinert has 11-year-old gelding El Little Playboy to thank for the Guymon victory. “Hugh” was purchased by Heinert in 2019, and he’s had plenty of practice this season. Heinert is an assistant rodeo coach at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Oklahoma, and when she’s not coaching, she’s giving goat tying clinics and lessons.
