On this episode of The Breakaway Breakdown, 19-year-old Jordi Edens talks explains how she overcame a difficult slump in 2021—where she only roped one calf on her entire Fourth of July run—to winning $15.5K in one week in 2022.

Read about her world standings jump.

“After Killdeer (North Dakota, in 2021), we drove all the way home,” Edens said. “I roped every day for two weeks before Cheyenne and ended up fourth at Cheyenne. That was my turning point. I realized I needed to take it a little more serious, put a little more effort in. I think missing those calves was the best thing that ever happened to me. It made me mad. It gave me the drive that I didn’t have, that I needed. I think it was God’s way of humbling me but making me want to work for it even harder, at the same time.

Edens is the 2019 National High School Finals Champion breakaway roper. The Texas native also won the Days of 47 in Salt Lake City, Utah when she was just 16 years old.
