Amanda Coleman, of Stephenville, Texas, is the most junior of the inaugural class of National Finals of Breakaway Roping Qualifiers at just 19 years old. She won $10,000 at the Charlie 1 Horse All-Girl Breakaway in Guthrie, Oklahoma during BFI Week in 2020, and she enters the NFBR ninth in with $10,977.

Where were you born and raised? And when did you move to Texas?

I grew up in West Melbourne, Florida. I moved to Texas when I was 17.

Being surrounded by Shelby Boisjoli and Jackie Crawford and living on the same street, how has this helped you as a competitor?

I think the biggest thing with being around Shelby and Jackie Is the competitive part! We all want to win first and push each other, but at the same time want to help each other out.

How did you get into the rodeo industry, as you were a surfer at a young age?

I honestly don’t really know how I got into rodeo, it kinda just happened! I grew up 10 minutes from the beach, and I could surf before I could really swim. My dad would give me a life jacket and push me in on the waves!

Was breakaway roping the first event you competed in as a young age? What other events have you participated in?

Breakaway was kind of the last event I picked up. I ran barrels for a while before I roped. After I started roping, I pretty much did every event at one point in time!

What type/brand of rope do you use?

I use the Striker by Rattler!!

What are some of your biggest accomplishments so far?

One of my favorite wins would be the BFI this year. That was pretty special! Another pretty cool win was the PRCA rodeo in Gooding, Idaho—that was my first ProRodeo win!

Considering the coming of breakaway, what are some of your future goals?

As far as next year goes I will try and make the finals again and hopefully get a gold buckle! BRJ
