5. Shelby Boisjoli discusses training gear and futurity game

I’ve always wanted to known for my horsemanship. Roping is important too, and I love competing but I am really passionate about training. I love staying home and spending time with the horses, riding and training. I think the futurity deal is really good for the horse industry.

4. Joey Willams talks work-life balance with kids and ProRodeo

Missing time with my kids is the hardest for me. I literally wake up every day and wonder if I’m making the right choices, having to sacrifice time with my kids here and there. I try not to enter too crazy so I can get home once a week.

3. JJ Hampton‘s reaching magic and staying power

I guess I have a go-for-broke mentality, but I’m an aggressive roper and I practice that way. I look for my shot and I take it. My goal is to win. I don’t want to go out there and be four flat. I feel like I can be fast on certain calves because I can reach and I’ll do things that most other girls won’t try. I’m not going to let a calf that’s not-the-best keep me from winning.

2. How Josie Connor‘s parents built a humble champion

When Josie turned 16-years-old, I opened an account for her and said ‘I think you rope good enough to be profitable, and if you run out of money, come talk to me.’ Since that day until now, I have not paid for another thing—besides the things parents pay for. Josie runs it as a business. She writes down every stall she pays for and she and her mom get it all organized for taxes to send to the CPA.

1. Riding the highs and lows of ProRodeo with Jackie Crawford

“In 2022, had tried to do too many things. I let too many things take priority over doing that hard-work, designated [roping] practice. I kept adding to my plate over the years and I never subtracted anywhere. I lost the mental aspect of competing.

I knew when I came home from ProRodeo that year, I needed to change things to stay relevant. I sold my futurity colt, I sold all my young horses and I started roping the dummy. [Simplifying life] is like withdrawing from a drug. Turning down things is hard.”
