Kelsie Domer Snags First-Ever NFR Open Qualification with Texas Circuit Double-Whammy

Kelsie Domer hadn't competed in the Texas Circuit Finals in years, but made a huge statement in 2024 by winning both the Average and Year-End Championships aboard gelding "Little Man."

Kelsie Domer may have a slew of titles including nine WPRA World Championships, three NFBR Qualifications and a 2024 Calgary Stampede Rocky Mountain Cup Championship, but her newest title is one she’s never had before—Texas Circuit Champion.

With an aggregate of 10.3 seconds on four head and a total of $31,419 won on the year, Domer took both the Average and Year-End Championships home to Dublin, Texas.

“Me, Hali Williams and Abbie Weil were really close going in,” Domer said. “Even in that first round, Hali split it and overtook me. I knew it was going to be close the whole time, but I just tried to keep my head down and keep getting them caught.”

With times of 2.5, 2.2 and 2.2 seconds in the first three rounds, Domer collected a total of $2,914 in go-round money and set herself up for the average win on ever faithful gelding “Little Man.”

The pen of calves was partially made of cattle that had been roped at the Governor’s Cup in Sioux Falls, and fleshed out with calves with a similar amount of runs on them. Domer said she drew well in the first three rounds, but by Round 4, her luck ran out.

“It doesn’t matter what kind of calf it is, when you run them in the same building four nights in a row they’re going to figure out [the game],” Domer explained. “But I knew I needed to go get him caught. At that point I knew I didn’t need to place in the round [to win].”

With a final time of 3.4 seconds on a calf that headed left hard, Domer sealed two championships in the highest-earning WPRA Circuit.

“This will be the first time I get to go to the NFR Open, so I am excited about that,” Domer said. “That was the main goal. It’s such good money and there are only so many girls to rope against. I’m glad I can mark that off my list.”

  • Sandhills Stock Show & Rodeo, Odessa, TX — $2,040
  • Amarillo Tri State Fair & Rodeo, Amarillo, TX — $2,841

“The Circuit Finals is only an hour-and-a-half from home, and it’s good to end this year on a good note and [the money counts] for next year,” Domer said. “It’s a good end and a good start all in one.”

Williams will be the second roper representing the Texas Circuit at the 2025 NFR Open with a Reserve Champion finish in the Year-End race with $24,946.
