MATCH THE PACE

Is Breakaway Roping’s Mid-August World Standings Pace Different in 2026 Than It Was in 2025?

The No. 1 spot and the No. 15 cutline are both within about $1,000 of where they sat a year ago. Everything between them looks nothing alike.

Breakaway roping’s 2026 world standings are running within roughly $1,000 of the 2025 pace at both No. 1 and the No. 15 National Finals Breakaway Roping cutline—but the money behind those two numbers is nothing like it was a year ago.

The numbers below run the official WPRA world standings file stamped Aug. 20, 2026, against the projected standings BRJ published Aug. 18, 2025, which carried money through Aug. 17 of that year.

The Top and the Cutline

Cheyanne McCartney leads the 2026 world standings with $164,776 won. On the same date last year, Taylor Munsell led with $163,719—$1,057 between two seasons at the very top, a difference of 0.6%. Beau Peterson holds 15th at $75,038 compared to Macy Young who held it a year ago at $75,986, a difference of $948, or 1.2%.

Everything between those two lines has changed. Munsell’s 2025 lead was $283 over Shelby Boisjoli-Meged, and both had cleared $163,000 by the middle of August. McCartney’s lead is $21,432 over Hali Williams, and no one else in the field has reached $145,000.

Where the Money Split

Ten deep, 2026 is actually ahead. The top 10 have won $1,154,798 against last year’s $1,152,764, a gain of 0.2%. Add the next five and it flips. The 2026 top 15 have won $1,560,244 to last year’s $1,586,325, down 1.6%, and the entire $26,081 shortfall sits in the 11-through-15 band.

Last August inside the bubble was a logjam, with Rylee George, Bradi Good and Suzanne Williams all above $90,600 at 11th, 12th and 13th. This year 11th belongs to Haiden Thompson at $84,864, and only $9,826 separates 11th from 15th—last year the same five spots covered $14,941. That band has tightened by 34.2%.

So Is the Pace Different?

So, no—the top and bottom lines of money in 2026 are not at a different pace than 2025. The leader is $1,057 ahead of last year’s leader, the cutline is $948 behind last year’s cutline, and seven ropers have cleared $100,000 to last year’s six.

Where 2026 is different is compression at the bubble, where $13,506 separates 15th from 20th, down 10% from last year’s $15,011. And McCartney’s $164,776 is 86% of the $191,175 regular season record Munsell set last year. Munsell herself was at 86% of it on this date, and she finished the regular season on top.

The pace isn’t different at the top, and it isn’t different at the cutline. It’s different in the bubble, which is 10% tighter than it was a year ago.
