Sneak Attack! Canada’s Jenna Dallyn Comes Out on Top at 2024 NFR Open 🇨🇦

Jenna Dallyn had been quietly staying the course throughout 2024, hoping for a trip to the Canadian National Finals Rodeo despite missteps that kept her out of the money at several rodeos. Then came her Colorado Springs breakthrough.

Jenna Dallyn’s 2024 rodeo record got a boost when she cashed in at the NFR Open in Colorado Springs, rounding up a total of $15,625 for her time of 2.4 seconds during the Short Go on Saturday, July 13.

“I was actually pretty calm backing in the box,” Dallyn said. “There wasn’t a lot of pressure, it was a one-header so you just have to be aggressive. I felt good about my calf and it worked out.”

Hailing from Nanton, Alberta, Dallyn admitted her Canadian rodeo season had seen some “rough luck.” With this win, she’s hoping things turn around.

Dallyn roped in 4.4 and 3.1 seconds in Pool A to advance to the Short Go with a time of 7.5 seconds on two head alongside Texas’ Jackie Crawford and the Prairie Circuit’s Christi Braudrick. From there it was a clean slate—and Dallyn had some tough competition including 2022 NFR Open Champion Martha Angelone and 2023 Champion Maddy Deerman.

Riding 12-year-old palomino gelding “Taxi,” Dallyn went to work.

“This is a pretty big deal, and my mom and I came a long ways to get here. For it to work out, it’s just great.” – Jenna Dallyn

Taxi’s registered name is Cielos Tinseltown, and he’s bred royally for the reining. He’s sired by $3 million sire Hollywoodstinseltown and out of a mare sired by Gallo Del Cielo (more commonly known as “Rooster.”)

“I bought him about a year ago from my dad,” Dallyn said. “He was a switch-ending team roping horse.”

In light of a NFR Open win….

Dallyn explained she’d been mostly rodeoing in Canada, in hopes of making the Canadian Finals and capturing the Championship.

“I am actually down a bit in the Canadian Standings, I haven’t looked recently,” Dallyn said. “I’ve had some tough luck here lately and I hope this turns it around.”

But with the NFR Open win in her back pocket, Dallyn may shift her focus Southward.

“I’m rodeoing with my boyfriend Riley Wakefield, he’s rodeoing in Canada right now,” Dallyn said. “I also travel with Shaya Biever and my friend Kashley Seitz.”

With a handful of traveling partners to jump in with, Dallyn has some choices to make as the season heads into big-name rodeos including Cheyenne Frontier Days, Salt Lake City and Spanish Fork. She’s not entered in this slate of U.S. rodeos, but there may be walk-up replacement opportunities.
