MaryBeth Beam of Poetry, Texas, keeps her fellow breakaway Resistol rookies at bay with earnings of $10,579 during the 2023 WPRA season as of June 6.

As the summer run gains steam, meet some of the rookie ladies staking their claim in the top 10 of the Resistol rookie standings.

#1 Resistol Rookie: MaryBeth Beam

Beam, who has led the field for months, recently picked up a $1,659 payday at the Pioneer Days Rodeo in Clovis, New Mexico, as well as checks at Will Rogers Stampede in Claremore, Oklahoma, and the Mt. Pleasant Rodeo in Texas.

“So far this season has been pretty good for me. I had a bit of a dry spell a couple of weeks ago where I didn’t rope well,” Beam said. “And it wasn’t because I didn’t draw well, it’s because I didn’t have my head on straight and I didn’t have the right mental game.

“But overall, it’s been a dream come true. I never dreamed even six months ago that I would be here. It’s all been such a blessing.”

#2 Resistol Rookie: Bethany Stallons

Following Beam is Bethany Stallons from Emelle, Alabama, with $8,886 in earnings. Stallons is cashing checks in the Great Lakes region, most recently winning Farmington, Missouri’s Coles Tractor & Equipment Regional PRCA Rodeo with a time of 3.2 seconds.

She tied for third at the Ozark Empire PRCA Pro Rodeo in Springfield, Missouri, in early May, adding a total of $3,303 to her record between the two rodeos.

#6 Resistol Rookie: Kenzie Kelton

Kenzie Kelton of Mayer, Arizona, has advanced from the No. 8 to the No. 6 spot in the last two months with total earnings of $5,309. Kelton earned $3,384 across seven rodeos, cutting a check at the Pioneer Days Rodeo in Clovis, New Mexico, and tying for second at Elizabeth Stampede Rodeo in Elizabeth, Colorado, earning $1,803.

#8 Resistol Rookie: Quincy Sullivan

Quincy Sullivan has been busy, moving into the top 10 Resistol Rookie standings throughout the spring and landing at No. 8 with earnings of $4,932. The roper from Peralta, New Mexico, won the Resistol Rookie Roundup in Fort Worth on April 29 with a time of 9.5 seconds on three head, worth $2,500.

Sullivan earned the inaugural USTRC Total Feeds Open Ladies Breakaway Championship on Tuesday, April 25, which, although not WPRA affiliated, gave her $17,960 in cash for traveling.
