Eye on Edwards
Emmry Edwards Pockets $28K at Patriot, Continues Upwards Trend with WCJR in Her Sights

Following a nearly $30K payday in the 15-and-Under breakaway division, some ropers may stick to their comfort zone. But not Emmry Edwards—who's leveling up at the WCJR.

Emmry Edwards brought home $28,000 at The Patriot Fort Worth in the breakaway roping alone, and is looking to continue her momentum at the World Championship Junior Rodeo (WCJR) in Guthrie, Oklahoma, July 22–26, 2025.

At 15 years old, the Stephenville, Texas, cowgirl is still eligible for the youth division at the WCJR, but has decided to rope up into the junior division for a chance at more prize money.

The Breakaway Roping Journal caught up with Edwards following her big wins at Patriot Fort Worth.

Did you know there’s a $100 discount on WCJR Open entries until April 1? Find more information here.

BRJ: Emmry, tell us about your background. Did you grow up in a rodeo family?

Emmry Edwards: “Yes ma’am, I’ve ridden my whole life. My dad Travis is from Australia, and he moved over here when he was 19 to rodeo. And he met my mom Jill in college. I started roping when I was 6 and started getting competitive when I was 10. It really went from there—becoming better as I went. I love roping with family. I can go outside and rope the dummy with my mom or dad and have little competitions. I have two sisters, Lilly who’s 12 and Torry who’s 7.

Tell us about your horsepower.

When I was younger, I started roping on my mom’s head horse Roscoe. He was a big horse, and he really helped me. And when I was ready for a step up, we got a really nice gray horse from a friend Charles Turner that my dad had trained. He’s my good horse now, we call him “Gray.” He’s the best horse there is, to me. He fires across the line and always gives me that shot. He means so much to me. He’s such a sweet horse, he never does anything bad. He’s a sweet horse that’s really good to have.”

And we just saw you at The Patriot right?

Yes ma’am. I earned $12,500 in the 15-and-Under breakaway and got to come back for the [$50,000] Bonus Round, and I won $12,500 in that.

What’s your experience with the WCJR?

Last year I placed third in the youth breakaway at the WCJR. I qualified through the Future Stars, and I thought that was a pretty good deal. I’m still eligible for the youth, but this year I am roping up into the Junior because of the bigger payouts.

Something tells us we’ll be seeing more from this young lady. – BRJ
