The stage is set for the Women’s Rodeo World Championship finale in AT&T Stadium on Saturday, where the challenger breakaway ropers will be looking to carve themselves a piece of the $115K purse.
Out of the seven ladies roping, three are from the Challenger division, which determined by lifetime earnings. To make it here, these ladies roped their way through two go-rounds and a semifinal to punch their ticket to AT&T Stadium.
To do it, they either had to finish No. 1 or 2 in the average on three head, or post the fast time in the semifinals.
Take a look at the final three WRWC Challenger breakaway ropers.
Wylie Jo Hodges
Hodges pulled double duty at the WRWC this week, competing in the Pro barrel racing and Challenger breakaway roping. She posted a 3.15 in Round 1, 2.37 in Round 2 for a No. 2 finish and 2.19 in the Semifinals for the No. 1 spot in the average.
Quealy Probst
Probst had an electrifying start to her week with a 2.22-second time in Round 1, winning $2,500. From there she played the consistency game, posting a 3.18-second run in Round 2 and 3.13 in the Semifinals for the No. 2 position in the average.
The 16-year-old has been making her name known in breakaway circles, winning a go-round in The American Contender Tournament in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Madison Stanley
Stanley’s week hadn’t been going her way, that was, until she backed into the box for the semifinals. The Lufkin, Texas, cowgirl put a 1.82-second time up on the board—the fastest run of the day—and secured her spot in the finals by winning the round.
Bonus: Limited Roper Emmry Edwards
While she’s not in the Challenger division, we would be remiss not to include Limited Champion Emmry Edwards in this list. The Stephenville, Texas roper clinched a career-defining win Tuesday night, capturing the Women’s Rodeo World Championship (WRWC) Limited Breakaway Roping Average title with runs of 2.74, 2.46 and 2.44 seconds.
The 15-year-old earned $2,468 and, more significantly, secured a spot in the WRWC Finals at Arlington’s AT&T Stadium, where she’ll compete alongside six elite ropers for a $60,000 first-place prize. Read the full article here.
