"They can’t outrun our ropes."
MaryBeth Beam Posts Fastest Run of WCRA Rodeo Corpus Christi in Progressive Round 2

Sophomore ProRodeo competitor MaryBeth Beam is IN the WCRA Rodeo Corpus Christi Showdown Round, giving herself a shot at the WCRA's Kid Rock's Rock N Rodeo team.

Hauling partner JJ Hampton is rubbing off on MaryBeth Beam, who couldn’t get the rope out of her hand any faster during Progressive Round 2 at WCRA Rodeo Corpus Christi, clocking a 2.12-second run and sending herself to the Showdown Round on Saturday.

“We had to go fast, and I like going fast,” Beam, 19, said. “It just worked out for us tonight.”

After posting a 7.67-second run in Progressive Round 1 on Thursday night, Beam needed a round win to guarantee herself a spot in the Showdown Round.

“I always do well in the second round at these,” Beam said. “I won Round 2 at Stampede at the E and finished No. 2 at Rodeo Carolina as well. My calf hadn’t ever been ran before, so we didn’t know what it was going to do. Run, walk…. It was hitting the chute [and acting up] so I was just focused on scoring. I HAD to see something around the end of the chute.”

Once she saw her calf take a step, Beam was off to the races on “Peanut,” a gelding who’s progressed leaps and bounds since Beam took him to his first “Big Show” at the E in January.

“Tomorrow night I’m going to go fast again,” Beam said. “I’m hauling with JJ, so she always says ‘You just gotta throw it! We’re going to find out who throws it. They can’t outrun our ropes, that’s what we’ve been saying.”

As for the Kid Rock’s Rock N Rodeo opportunity awaiting the top two finishers at WCRA Rodeo Corpus Christi, Beam says she’s relying on God’s plan and she’s roping one calf at a time.
