How Are the 2023 Breakaway Circuits Looking? Mid-May Update

The WPRA breakaway circuits are gaining momentum, and the Breakaway Roping Journal made a quick list of who's who in the circuit races.

As the weather warms, the WPRA breakaway circuits are starting to take shape with frontrunners such as the Prairie Circuit’s Sierra Heinert jumping to a commanding lead of more than $3,000.

There is plenty of circuit activity to come, but here is the early who’s who in the 13 WPRA breakaway circuits race.

California Circuit

Hanna Hundsdorfer Dominates Clovis Rodeo

Hanna Hundsdorfer earned the California Circuit Year-End Championship for 2022. In 2023, the Visalia, California, cowgirl is already leading the race again with more than $6,800 earned at the Clovis Rodeo on April 30, 2023.

First Frontier Circuit

The First Frontier Circuit breakaway ropers suffered a big blow when, in April, the Cowtown Rodeo announced it was removing breakaway from its lineup. The circuit with some of the fewest rodeos on the schedule lost 17 rodeos with the announcement.
