3 Bubble Battles to Watch Ahead of Sioux Falls

Long story short, it's probably going to come down to who does well at Sioux Falls.

The 2024 ProRodeo breakaway field has exactly one week left in the regular season, and a handful of money-making opportunities left to shift the breakaway bubble in their favor.

From Jordan Jo Hollabaugh sitting No. 12 in the World Standings to No. 19 TiAda Gray—the NFBR door is open, and all eyes are on the breakaway bubble.

The Breakaway Roping Journal took a look at the weekend numbers to see where everyone is sitting and who has a chance at 2024 Las Vegas glory.

Observation 1: Hollabaugh, Pierson and George aren’t safe

These three ladies are inside the breakaway bubble, but they’re not comfortable. Jordan Jo Hollabaugh, Kendal Pierson and Rylee George are less than $10,000 from the bubble cutoff, putting them within striking distance of those seeking to make the NFR.

There are two ladies outside the Top 15—Bradi Good and TiAda Gray—who will be competing in Sioux Falls and have a great opportunity to make up ground (find Sioux Falls payout information in Observation 3). Pair that with Sarah Angelone and Bailey Bates’ fiery motivation to make sure their names are on the list for Las Vegas, and Hollabaugh, Pierson and George may have a reason to sweat.

Fortunately for Pierson and George, they’re also going to Sioux Falls, and capitalizing there should secure their NFBR berth.

Observation 2: Angelone and Bates are in the same boat

Bates made huge gains over the weekend to move from No. 20 to No. 16—$3,453 behind Angelone in the No. 15 position.

But now, the two are in a similar situation. Neither are qualified for Sioux Falls, and have to rodeo for their lives over the next week if they want to gain an edge over Good and Gray, who are both competing in the lucrative Sioux Falls rodeo.

We would be remiss to not mention NFBR veteran, Joey Williams. Williams is $6,524 off Angelone’s pace and also doesn’t have the luxury of Sioux Falls to bolster her chances. It’s not impossible for her to make up the ground, but with limited number of rodeos and her surrounding peers being IN Sioux Falls, it’s not looking good.

Observation 3: Good and Gray have a big opportunity

While Good and Gray are $3,553 and $9,892 off the breakaway bubble, respectively, they’re headed to one of the biggest ProRodeos of the season—the Governor’s Cup in Sioux Falls.

Good qualified via her Playoff Series position, while Gray punched her Sioux Falls ticket at the Washington State Fair in Puyallup.

Sioux Falls is paying $11,000 to the champion in each performance, and $30,000 to the overall champion. No. 2, 3 and 4 in the short go is paying $22,500, $15,000 and $7,500.

One or more of those paydays can launch Good and Gray into the NFBR.
